Helmy and Frans Knoops of Knoops Farm Supplies Ltd. will match up to 11 mattresses.
The shelter is in urgent need of 22 mattresses. Many of the foam mattresses at the shelter have compressed to the point that the children feel the cold from under the mattress. An adequate mattress provides insulation from the cold and a soft surface to provide the children's bodies with the comfort they need to have restorative sleep, which they need to grow, learn and play.
$20 each set | 44 needed
Dr. Don and Lisa Miettinen will match up to 22 sets.
The shelter is in urgent need of 44 sets of sheets and pillows. The protection of sheets even on a warmer night is important to provide comfort and a feeling of security. On the cooler nights, they provide warmth. A soft pillow for your head provides the body with comfort and head and neck support while you sleep. A comfortable night's sleep helps children grow, learn and enjoy their time of play.
$20 each set | 28 needed
Kim and Lois Barnes will match up to 14 kits.
The schools in Harar have made it a requirement for children to have specific athletic clothing for their physical education classes and activities. We want the children who are living at the shelter and supported through the shelter to have every opportunity to learn, play, develop and grow.
$30 each set | 22 needed || NEED MET!
Kim and Lois Barnes will match up to 11 blankets.
The shelter is in urgent need of 22 blankets to provide the children with the warmth they need to have a good sleep. Many people in North America think all of Africa is hot all the time but this is not true. Ethiopia has months of cool temperatures especially in the evening and early morning (when the children are sleeping). The shelter does not have a heating source making the blankets essential for the children to have the warmth needed to have good quality and restorative sleep. The blankets are made in Ethiopia which supports their economy and are soft, thick and very cozy.
$600 each | 11 needed
Paul Green of Green Private Wealth will match up to 6 bunk beds.
The shelter is in urgent need of 11 bunk beds. The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs in Harar has informed Tesfa that children 14 and over cannot share a bed with another child. Currently, two children share a single bed in the shelter. The shelter is very small and every inch is used efficiently to allow the maximum number of children to have a safe and loving home. There is no other way to provide more sleeping space than to go up and bunk beds are the perfect solution. The bunk beds will be built locally (providing local employment) with drawers under the bottom bunk providing much needed space for clothing. Not only will the bunk beds meet the Ministry's requirements, they will provide the children with restorative and comfortable sleep.
