Double the Meals, Double the Hope

Our sponsors are matching all donations up to $10,000!

Tesfa was recently contacted by the Ethiopian government, letting him know that 20 children had been identified as living in crisis. These children come to school without having anything to eat and having nothing for lunch. Many of the children cry at school due to the physical and emotional pain of chronic hunger and food insecurity. With your help, we can make sure that these 20 children have three meals a day and the support of the provisions at Tesfa’s Shelter.  We can make sure these children never know chronic hunger again.

Hear from the children being supported by your donations…

Most days I eat one small meal at night if local restaurants would give me the leftover food customers didn’t eat. I feel lonely because I don’t want my friends to know my family cannot provide for me and I am always hungry.
— Sara
Not having enough food to eat makes me feel lonely because I think nobody understands how hungry I am.
— Mahlet
I feel embarrassed when my friends are eating lunch at school and I have nothing.
— Nuhamin
Being without food makes me feel very sad because my stomach hurts and I cannot stop thinking about food.
— Samuel
Because I don’t have enough food, I feel weak and tired, and sometimes I cry because I am so hungry. Being hungry all the time makes me feel sad and I don’t want to play with other children.
— Meklit
I feel scared when there is no food because I don’t know when I will eat again. Because of hunger, I feel very tired at school and sometimes I cannot finish my work.
— Fiyameta
Not having enough to eat makes me feel small and unimportant when I cannot have food like other children. Sometimes I find fruit or vegetables that have fallen on the ground at the market to eat. I often have stomach pains in school because I have not eaten anything.
— Ruhama

Meet all of the matching campaign sponsors…

For both of us, the reason we give is understanding that food is urgently needed and our motivation comes from the certainty in knowing our donations will directly reach the children in Ethiopia.
— Carolyn Usher & Dave Searle
We wanted to be a sponsor for the food matching campaign, because we know there is currently a specific group of children in Ethiopia who are in dire need of support. We have so much here, we can and want to share and truly hope that others will follow along with us.
— Helmy & Frans Knoops
As grandparents, we value children and would like to see all children loved and cared for. Tesfa’s Shelter not only provides food and shelter but also a safe place where kids feel cared for and develop a sense of belonging.
— Lois & Kim Barnes
We enthusiastically sponsor the food matching campaign for children in crisis. As retired educators, we recognize that adequate daily nutrition provides the foundation for opportunities and conditions that might easily be taken for granted, conditions these children may otherwise never experience, such as belonging, security and education. We want to partner with Tesfa in changing children’s lives in Ethiopia and we hope you will join us with your support.
— Beth & Skip Phoenix
Smiles and hearts. The warm smiles of the children and women of Ethiopia who are embracing changed lives. And the on the ground, community based, authentic hearts of the organization. These move me and hopefully you to participate with Hearts for Ethiopia.
— Anonymous Donor
Hearts for Ethiopia provides practical assistance for women and children in Ethiopia. The organization meets immediate needs like food and shelter and enables women and children to work towards a brighter future through education and job training. I hope that others here today will join in this work to feed children in crisis by contributing towards the “Double the Meals. Double the Hope.” matching campaign.
